If it wasn’t for the brilliant sunshine, you could swear that the game against HCCW last week was a repeat of the match the week before against BCCB.
Winning the toss again, we decided to bowl this time and see if we could chase the total. Once again Arun and Utsab got the new ball talking and quickly knocked over both openers, bringing the two danger men to the crease. However, catches went down once again and Amar, Farrukh and Shahbaz were able to reach 20 or 30 before finally being snapped up. The third session brought some fireworks however, with Rohit and Arun triggering a collapse in the tail, despite some lusty and costly blows from the last two men. Lunch was taken with HCCW having reached 168, a tough but reachable total.
However, once again we were set heavily on the back foot, losing the first three wickets with the scoreboard still in single figures. Imran again came to the crease and consolidated well, with his 11 from 80 balls more valuable than it may be given credit for. Both Dixit and Rohit were the victims of two marginal decisions and it was left to the tail of Siddiqi, Mark and Arun to keep the score respectable, with Arun top scoring on 21. The final score was, of course, 114 – just like last week.
So again, disappointment for the seconds – let’s hope for more success next weekend against our friends from BCC.
